Lately I’ve realized how predictable I am. A typical day for me looks something like this: wake up, run, coffee, work, coffee (maybe more coffee), lift, dinner, sleep. Notice a theme?
Because of my love of all things coffee, I have joined a blog link-up of like-minded fitness enthusiasts talking about just that (thanks to TrainWithBain)! Have you ever noticed that one-size does not always fit all with your choice in brews? For example, some days I drink nothing but black coffee, but depending on my mood, sometimes I need a little *something extra.* For this month’s musings, I am going to share my five favorite coffee drinks with you (and the moods they tend to go with).
1. Black Coffee – For the Daily Grind
Black coffee is my go-to drink. (When I first started drinking coffee I’d load it up with cream and sugar…by law school I didn’t want anything diluting that caffeine!) This is what I drink on a typical morning before work or after a workout with my Saturday morning brunch.
2. “Skinny” Something-or-Other Latte – For a Difficult Day
I know, I know… fake sugar is worse for me than real sugar. However, sugar free skinny vanilla (or cinnamon dolce) or the non-Starbucks equivalent is my guilty pleasure. I typically find myself ordering these tasty treats as preemptive rewards when I know its going to be a rough day (or when it already has been a rough day and there is still far more to go). To me, this is the equivalent of a hug. In my mug.
3. Blended Coffee Drink – The Beginning of Spring
Blended coffee drinks are to spring what the #PSL is to fall. Its obligatory for ringing in the season. Usually I start ordering these when Starbucks has the 1/2 price frappacinno happy hour and make it a point to have so many during that promotional period that I am done with them for the rest of the year (barring the occasional hot summer day).
4. Red Eye – Because Sometimes There is No Such Thing as Too Much Caffeine
My job requires that I work a lot of nights. The most difficult part is because there is no way to anticipate how late these nights will go, I am often forced to plan my workouts in the early morning hours to make sure that they don’t get skipped. On some days this can mean that I’m up in the 4 o’clock hour doing a 10 mile workout and not home from work until after 10 p.m. (just to do it all again the next day). These days require a little something extra in the form of the “red eye.” Because who doesn’t love a shot of espresso in their coffee?
5. Almond Milk Cappuccino – The Lazy Saturday Morning Drink
Thanks to my *wonderful* husband, I was lucky enough to get an espresso machine for Christmas (with a live-in barista). To that end, almond milk cappuccinos have become my lazy Saturday morning lounging around drink of choice.
