I love food. Especially sugar.
While I would consider myself a “healthy eater” compared to the general population, I really don’t eat all that healthy. Although I may not be chowing down on Big Macs and large fries, my nutrition habits leave much to be desired. “Everything in moderation” doesn’t exactly work for me either… there is no such thing as having “only one cookie” or “a little bite of pie.” Not to mention the fact that my portion control is more akin to that of a 250 pound man…
No, I am not fat. I am not complaining about my weight. But after this holiday season (like every holiday season) I have found myself in a food-coma and a slave to many bad eating habits. So I have committed to doing a Whole 30.
Yes, you have heard this from me before. I have tried healthy eating challenges a number of times in the past and I have failed miserably. Probably because after a few days of healthy eating I start feeling better and throw it all out the window. But this time is different. Not only do I want to break some of my bad habits, but I am really curious about finding food triggers. I know that there are clearly foods that don’t agree with me, and even after cutting out gluten for the most part, I still have incredibly horrible stomach pains for which I have not been able to identify a culprit. I also have a support network of girls that I know from my Crossfit gym (accountability and Facebook chat is a wonderful thing).
I am currently on Day 4 and have not experienced my normally daily stomach issues, so there is clearly something working. But I am finding myself hungry all of the time. I have had some small victories (I turned down gourmet donuts at my office in the morning, and egg casserole and cinnamon rolls at a later meeting (opted for fruit). I also managed to stay compliant at Portillos, which I counted as a major win). But it is hard. I am sick of eggs already (I eat oatmeal almost every morning). Overall, I am looking forward to this weekend so that I can actually take time to come up with more creative meals and snacking options.
Running this week has been going well at least. My leg has been bothering me less and I felt generally strong during my hilly 13 miler last weekend. Although I am very ready for my rest day tomorrow!
