I’m a little late to the game, but better late than never, right? Over the course of the next few weeks I will be joining a group of other like-minded fitness ladies and participating in the #HolidaySweat challenge. The challenge is currently in week 2 – and is all about keeping active during this holiday season, when it is all too easy to find excuses to avoid our workouts and indulge ourselves in not-so-healthy behavior. This challenge isn’t about cutting back (by all means, still enjoy that Turkey next week) but rather keeping up our good habits, even when it’s not convenient to do so. This week, it’s all about that core.
I was never big on cross-training until I was forced to through physical therapy and other injury rehab protocols. However, now that I have developed a solid cross-training regimen, I have seen the benefits first hand. Since I am still in marathon recovery mode – what better time to focus on strengthening back up other areas while stepping back from the heavy mileage?
This week I am going to make it a goal to plank everyday. Starting with 1 min today (front, side, side) and building up by 10-15 seconds each day. On the last day (Sunday) I will hold all three planks to fatigue. It’s an easy challenge (only 3+ minutes a day, depending on how strong you are) but a good one to start developing good habits. Healthy habits that stick are ultimately developed by the little changes that we make in our daily routines. I encourage you to join me! #ShowYouCan #HolidaySweat
