I always think it’s interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes in people’s lives and how running and fitness fit in. We all have the same 24 hours in a day – but our families, work, and lifestyles often dictate how those hours are spent. Like many of you, I work full time (I’m an attorney) while trying to balance family, friends, fitness, and other obligations into a schedule that always seems far too packed. The schedule below is representative of a typical “day in the life” and shows how I *try* to do what I can, when I can.
5:00 -5:30 a.m. (depending on how many times I hit snooze) Alarm goes off, drag myself out of bed, drink some water, change into running clothes, tidy a few things around the house while collecting iPod and watch
5:45 a.m. Run for an hour (+/-)
7:00-7:05 a.m. Stretch
7:05-7:45 a.m. Shower, get ready for work, grab food for lunch (usually just throwing random things into a Lululemon bag), get dogs situated for day, leave the house, stop for coffee
8:00- 8:15 a.m. Arrive at work, start working on projects
10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Client meetings
3:30 p.m. Return to office, pick up working on projects from morning
4:30 p.m. Leave office, drive home
5:00 p.m. Walk dog, eat dinner, tidy house, pay bills, etc.
6:30 p.m. Leave for night meeting
7:00 p.m. – 9:45 p.m. Attend night meeting
10:15 p.m. Arrive home from meeting, get dogs ready for night
10:45 p.m. *Try* to wind down, get ready for bed
If I don’t have a night meeting, the evening hours will look a bit different. When I was doing CrossFit, I would usually attend a 4:30 or 5:30 class. Now I will go home, walk the dog, eat a snack, and read/blog/watch tv/work on my to-do list. I also go to bed much earlier on those nights (like 9:00 rather than 11:00).
What does your schedule look like? How do you (try) to fit it all in?
